Project overview

Decibel is a self-initiated music streaming app inspired by the interfaces of modern DAPs and apps like Tidal and Spotify. It aims to strike a balance between functionality and minimalist, clear design.

Multidimensional search

Decibel features two search modes. A list search that is seen in other applications like Spotify, and a unique proximity search.

The latter arranges items on an infinitely expanding 2D canvas based on their similarity. This creates a unique user experience and allows you to find music you enjoy across multiple artists and genres.

Creating a premium look and feel

Important keywords during the design phase were clarity, focus and atmosphere. These were achieved through an intuitive user flow and clutter free screens.

To accommodate as many items as possible while avoiding clutter, certain components like such as card carousels and tab bars are allowed to overflow horizontally.
